Here we are already, beginning another new year. What are you looking forward to? I’m excited for all the new experiences I’ll have to learn what I don’t know now. That includes providing all our PureAyre blog followers with pieces of information that is not previously known.

My daughter has just turned five and as she grows she is becoming more aware of things my wife and I are teaching her…like why we try to avoid foods with chemical food dye, household fabric, carpet and air fresheners, other chemical household products that we have found replacements for, synthetic chemical sweeteners, etc.

2010 holds a lot of promise for us all, including PureAyre. Especially, as PureAyre is still the ONLY “food-grade” odor eliminator on the market today! Strong enough to instantly eliminate odors from cat urine and even skunk and Safe enough to spray around babies, allergies, asthma, etc. and even directly ON people and animals (like a stinky dog you can’t bathe at the moment).

What Does “Cruelty-Free” On A Product Label Mean?

I’m currently in the process of having PETA (People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals) www.PETA.org recognize PureAyre Odor Eliminator as a “cruelty-free” product for their members to become aware of. Some folks don’t know what that term means…and my blog is primarily about education and awareness, not just sharing PureAyre. Cruelty-free on our PureAyre product labels means we do not at all participate in animal testing in order to validate our product’s safety. The practice of subjecting a defenseless animal to pain in order to determine how detrimental a product’s chemicals will be to a person if exposed to them, is so inhumane! There is something known as “in-vitro” testing, that can allow companies to change their practices around validating reactions to their chemical household products. In vitro testing, by definition is: “A test performed in a lab setting rather than in a human or animal organism. The test may involve living tissue or cells, but takes place out of the body”. I have to warn you though, some of the material obtained and documented on their website is quite sad and uncomfortable…and true! My motives in marketing PureAyre are all linked to the core mission to provide all consumers with a truly safe solution to all everyday odors: from cat and dog urine, to skunked dogs, non-animal odors such as cigarette smoke and mold & mildew odors, etc. This mission is accomplished when someone proves PureAyre in their environment then shares it with someone they care about…who will switch to a truly safe product…because it works! Not just green and eco-friendly, but the fact it does work! No more masking agents, cover-up products, chemical air and fabric fresheners, just really powerful food-grade enzymes that break apart odors instantly! No more need for products that claim to be “safe, non-toxic, natural” put out by companies practicing the art of green-washing that creates a false perception in the consumer’s mind of “natural” and friendly around people, pets and the planet! Please look for cruelty free indications on products’ labels that advertise they do not animal test; and purchase those products. Oh, and by the way: Happy New Year!

Fresh and Odor-Free for the Holidays

Where I live, there is a great pet store www.ThePetFactor.net that sells our odor eliminator PureAyre…among other wonderful, healthy products for your pets. Michelle the owner is so great, she is really committed to “natural” foods, treats and other supplies for maintaining the healthiest lifestyle possible with your pet. Michelle has been learning more and more about the ”non-natural” properties in some of our everyday products that normally don’t think twice about. This month her customers are getting a gift from me: a FREE 4oz PureAyre travel size for their car, bathroom, pet bag, etc. It’s the perfect freshener (PureAyre freshens by eliminating, not masking with a chemical fragrance) for the air in the car, so it doesn’t smell like “wet dog”, like yesterday when I walked Sadie in the rain for an hour and a half, then got back to my car with a wet dog.

I want every Pet Factor customer to know about PureAyre, so they at least know about the only natural odor eliminator around themselves, their children and pets. As a child, I didn’t have that luxury. My mom used the typical Wizard, Glade, plug-ins, gels from Air Wick, etc. And today the “freshener” category is so much more crowded with products like Oust, Ozium, Febreze, and even products that are claiming to be green and eco-friendly. They may be a bit safer but not to the extent the claims and packaging design would lead one to believe. There is a new term in the retailer industry called “green-washing”. That is basically, when a company claims to have products that would lead a consumer to believe they’re safer and more natural than they really are. Because there are no regulations on household products, any company can put “Safe Around Children and Pets” then have massive amounts of Isoproponol as the third ingredient. This particular product has a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) that lists liver and kidney abnormalities if a small child or animal ingests the product. This is the oldest, most well-known product in the pet industry (white bottle with red labeling). The original supplier for the product has this same MSDS under their own product sold as in the pet industry and in the natural products stores. Problem with Isoproponol in this product, is that the directions for this product (at least used to) advise to “saturate” then allow 2-weeks to dry. When an animals walks across the saturated carpet, gets it on their paws then grooms themselves, they’re actually ingesting the product. Not to mention a baby crawling across the floor where there was a pet accident treated with this product. All these odor eliminators for pet odors and stains from cat and dog urine, feces, vomit, etc., are not safe solutions, regardless of their packaging and claims! This is why we consumers need to get to the products’ MSDS, to see what hazardous product properties can result in, that we wouldn’t normally know about. But who has the time? In Search of Moms!

One of my “missions” with this blog for PureAyre Odor Eliminator, is to find different groups of people that are interested and seeking the knowledge about household consumer products, regulations of chemical ingredients (actually, the lack of)and solutions I have to offer. One such group: Moms! Why? First of all, to all you women – you are more special than us guys! In one way: you physiologically have more genes in your olfactories/noses for detecting smells! Hmm. Why could that be? Could it be because women are designed (some accept the journey) to mother children…which includes protecting from harm (which could include dangerous smells from chemicals or anything else unsafe). Therefore, women purchase 75% of the air fresheners (like Glade, Wizard, Oust), fabric fresheners (like Febreze, Glade Fabric Freshener, Resolve, etc.), carpet fresheners and pet fresheners/odor eliminators. That means I want all women to know about PureAyre. Not just so moms (and non-moms too!) have an odor eliminator that actually works (instead of false claims like so many on the market), but also so that everyone has healthy, clean, solutions that are safe for people, pets and the planet…including our pets and children! I’ve found a website for moms that is a great resource for topics and issues to explore: http://www.momsrising.org/. It has good information for everyone, not just moms. It’s also a statistic that among the women buying the air, fabric, carpet and pet fresheners, many have pets. Therefore, the smells are more noticeable to you (if you’re a woman reading this). So, you may be wrestling with cat urine odor, dog odors, a dog recently sprayed by a skunk, or just a dog with smelly breath…yes, you can even freshen “Sparky’s” breath with PureAyre since it’s 100% food-grade! Natural products are the way of the future. However, some readers may not be interested in the “green” quality of PureAyre, just want something to get rid of that darn odor, and not temporarily mask or cover with a smelly freshener made from synthetic chemicals that are “supposed” to smell “good”! I have just found a wonderful website belonging to one Dr. Greene. Since my business specializes in helping you eliminate your unwanted smells and odors, without the use of harmful chemicals, I am thrilled to find this site and following link specifically that shows a short video: http://blogs.drgreene.com/blog/2008/12/05/chemicals-in-your-environment/. It also references www.healthychild.org. The issue I zero in on is the link between household “freshener” chemicals used that mask odors on our furniture, in the air, in our carpeting. Masking these odors with proven asthma triggers, allergy triggers, and more. We are spraying (or sprinkling, or plugging in) these products in our homes and children have up to ten times (10x) the exposure due to their smaller bodies having to absorb these chemicals through inhalation or other contact. I was walking my Beagle Sadie this morning and it often gives me the opportunity to reflect on my product PureAyre and what level of positive impact it’s having on the world. I was thinking about my blog URL address: Get The Stink Out and I realized that to me, the word “stink” symbolizes not only offensive odors that can be reallyannoying that PureAyre eliminates, ie: cat or dog pee or urine, cigarette smoke, mold or mildew and not to mention if your dog just got sprayed by a skunk! “Stink” also symbolizes to me, the toxic, synthetic chemicals (air fresheners, fabric fresheners, carpet fresheners, pet fresheners) manufactured to cover up or mask the original offending odor. All one has to do is read the Material Safety Data Sheet, or MSDS for short, to see the hazardous properties related to the main points of entry in our bodies: mouth (Ingestion), nose (Inhalation), eyes, and skin absorption. Now of course as adults, we don’t have a concern for ourselves under the “Ingestion” hazards, but all I know is Asthma, allergies and chemical sensitivites are severely on the rise…and we’re breathing these products in our homes. We have a toxic soup at home that combines the odors from our floor cleaners, bathroom cleaners, air fresheners, fresheners for the furniture, plug-in devices, etc., etc., etc. What is also a problem is ozone machines that are sold through some popular retailers, that emit the ozone that then combines with airborne chemicals at home to negatively produce even more issues! The other problem is that many of us are parents and our children have smaller bodies, so even more largely impacted by these exposures.

What are phthalates? A family of chemical substances used primarily to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) soft and flexible. These have been banned in other countries, including the European Union, classified as neurotoxins. One serious issue is using phthalates to make baby toys pliable. Don’t babies chew on their toys, especially when teething?
